From Morocco to Tunisia, large multinational concerns are delocalizing businesses ranging from motor vehicles to computers on these markets. Capital is also arriving here from the Persian Gulf. It's sufficient to consider that a third of the world's entire maritime traffic passes along the Moroccan coasts. To intercept at least part of this business, a new port has been built close to Tangier, which in a few years could reach 8.5 million containers per year, overtaking the sector's big names, such as Rotterdam and Long Beach, the largest port on the American east coast. Major shipping and logistics companies are already moving into the terminals. And that's not all: Tanger Med could become a development hub that goes well beyond shipping. In fact, round the new port, Morocco is setting up a tax-free area to attract factories for processing the very products transported by the huge container ships that plough across the Mediterranean.
