Página 3 de 4 In recent years, King Mohamed VI has given a greater political boost to tourism, foreseeing an investment of 90 billion dirhams in 10 years. Plans include tripling hotel accommodation capacity, ensuring staff training and increasing the budget for tourism promotion. There is talk of 110,000 new hotel beds, 70,000 of which within 2010, above all in prestigious luxury venues. The name of the project is "Le plan Azur" (The Blue Plan). Six new high potential zones have been identified in order to construct the equivalent of the tourist zone of Agadir. The areas are Laârache (Lixus), Essaouira (Mogador), Saïdia, El Jadida (Mazagan), Taghazout (Agadir) and Plage Blanche (Guelmin). As well as the "Blue Plan", there are numerous large private projects in Morocco's major cities. In Casablanca for example, the Accor group has launched the construction of Casa City Center, which has an overall investment of around 598 million euros (3 hotels, car parks, shopping centre and property). Other tourist complex projects are planned in Tangier, such as that of Houara, which has financing for 170 million dollars from Quatar. In 2007 alone, Morocco hosted 7.4 million tourists, with an annual increase of 12%. It's no coincidence that the business press has recently highlighted the emerging economies of Southern Mediterranean countries. |
